Restoration work is invasive. Drying out a water loss means pulling baseboards, cutting drywall, and running air movers for days. Fire and smoke work means cleaning every surface. Roof and structural repairs mean people and materials moving through rooms.

Anything still in those rooms is either in the way or in danger — and leaving salvageable furniture in a house with high humidity, soot, or open framing is how good pieces become total losses.

Let your restoration contractor and adjuster decide what is salvageable, get anything wet dried and cleaned first, and store only what is dry and stable. Hard goods — wood furniture, dishes, tools, sealed bins — are usually the safest candidates.
