PODS, PACK-RAT, and U-Box all quote a monthly rent, then add delivery, pickup, and (for PODS/PACK-RAT) a re-delivery fee if you're moving between addresses. Published rates also vary a lot by ZIP code and season, so a quote you got last spring isn't the quote you'll get this month. We hear from customers regularly whose final national-brand price came in well above the number on the website.
None of that is a knock — those companies operate huge fleets across the country and price accordingly. It's just a different model than a local yard.
Delivery speed
Our containers live at our yard just outside Mansfield. When you book, we usually deliver same day or next day. Weekends included in most cases.
The national brands route from regional hubs and slot deliveries into a truck schedule that covers a wide territory. In our experience talking to customers, that's often 3 to 7 days out from booking — sometimes longer during peak moving season (May–August). If your closing date moved up or your remodel starts Monday, that gap matters.
The container itself
MobiStor uses one size: 16 feet long by 8 feet wide by 8 feet tall, steel construction, ground-level loading, lockable doors. That fits roughly a 2–3 bedroom home, or a full garage plus a couple of rooms of furniture. Larger jobs use two containers.
The nationals offer a few size options — PODS and PACK-RAT run 7', 12', and 16' steel containers; U-Box is a smaller plywood-and-fabric-panel unit designed to fit inside a moving truck. All three work; they're just built for different jobs. If you want more choice of sizes or you're doing a long-distance move where U-Box's shipping network is genuinely useful, a national brand may fit better.
Who you actually talk to
This one's underrated until something goes sideways. With MobiStor, you're calling or texting the person who owns the yard the container came from. Delivery got pushed by weather? Reply to the same thread. Need the container moved 20 feet to the left after the driveway got repaved? Same thread.
The nationals route you through a call center. That's a fine model for straightforward orders and a frustrating one when your situation isn't standard.
When a national brand actually makes more sense
We'd rather send you to a competitor than sell you the wrong thing. Consider PODS, PACK-RAT, or U-Box if:
- You're moving out of Ohio — the nationals will ship a loaded container cross-country; we won't
- You specifically need a smaller (7' or 12') container and one MobiStor won't fit the space
- You're outside our statewide Ohio delivery footprint
